This policy explains what personal data Smart Money Betting collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.
Who we are: Smart Money Betting is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at hi@smartmoneybetting.com about anything in this policy, including any request to exercise the rights set out below.
1. Who this policy covers
This site is intended for adults aged 18 or over who are resident in the United Kingdom. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
2. What we collect
If you just read the site
- Analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location at country or region level, device and browser type, how you arrived, and how long you stayed. Collected through Google Analytics 4.
- Server logs — your IP address, browser user agent, and the pages requested. Kept by our host for security and troubleshooting.
If you join the mailing list
- Your email address, and your name if you give it.
- Whether you open our emails and which links you click.
If you buy a membership
- Your name, email address and billing details.
- Your membership level, start date, and payment history.
- We never see or store your full card number. Payments are processed by Stripe, who handle your card details directly. We only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, plus the last four digits and card type for your receipts.
If you use the community
- Your username, profile information and any avatar or images you upload.
- Posts, comments, activity updates and messages you send through the community area.
- Remember that anything you post in the community is visible to other members. Do not post personal information you would rather keep private.
If you use our calculators
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The odds and stakes you type are never sent to us and are never stored.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Providing your membership and community account | Performance of a contract |
| Taking payment and keeping financial records | Contract, and legal obligation |
| Sending marketing emails | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Analytics and understanding how the site is used | Consent |
| Site security, fraud prevention and troubleshooting | Legitimate interests |
| Responding to your enquiries | Legitimate interests |
4. Cookies
We use:
- Essential cookies that keep you logged in and remember your session. These cannot be turned off without breaking the site.
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics.
You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time.
5. Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, and they are marked where they appear. If you click one and sign up, we may receive a commission from that company at no extra cost to you.
When you click an affiliate link you leave our site. The company you land on sets its own cookies and collects your data under its privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive your personal details from them — only anonymous confirmation that a referral converted.
Affiliate relationships never affect our review scores, rankings or recommendations.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that make the site work:
- SiteGround — hosting for the site and its database.
- Google Analytics — website analytics.
- ConvertKit (Kit) — sending and managing our emails.
- Stripe — processing membership payments.
- Zapier — passing membership events between the systems above.
Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to.
7. How long we keep it
- Membership and payment records: six years after your last transaction, to meet accounting requirements.
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, then a suppression record so we do not email you again.
- Community content: until you ask us to remove it or delete your account.
- Analytics: up to 14 months.
- Server logs: typically 30 days.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what data we hold about you, and get a copy
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Ask us to delete your data
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, including unsubscribing from emails
To exercise any of these, email hi@smartmoneybetting.com. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, access to the admin area is restricted, and card details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes affecting members will be notified by email.
